A Girl in a Man's World.
learning about/how to hunt and fish.Day 27
Good Morning. So I was watching a hunting show this morning and I saw that if you are down wind from an animal that they can smell you and know you are there so they will know you are trying to get them and they will run away.
Hunting stores have these dispenser things that permeate the air with the smell of a deer or other animal. Sometimes in a hunting area there are man made shelter things for hunters to use to hide then from the animals. They also protect the hunters from the beating sun and the sideways rain. These shelters are called blinds.
There are portable blinds as well as the permanent ones. The blinds are usually camouflaged so that the animals have a harder time knowing the hunters are there. Sometimes the hunters have devices that they use to make animal noises. You can call deer, turkeys, coyotes, and some other types of animals.
Day 26 – New Car!
Youuuu guessed it! I got my car today! It was soo incredibly exciting! No more freaking out when my dads car stalls and the engine turns off! SKETCH! haha its soo scary! But that will happen no more, because I have my own car. I have my own car I have my own I have my own car, hey, hey, hey, HEY!
Okay so I know that you are dying to hear about it. It it a white 2002 Toyota Tacoma. I drove it home from San Diego and it rides great. I absolutely love it!
I watched The Deadliest Catch today. That show is just great! The dangers that they face in the Bering Sea everyday is ridiculous and I can’t even imagine what would happen if I was put on that boat in those waves and did the things they do. The professional fishermen that catch the big fish and the king crab and the rare fish are fishermen who make a lot of money.
Day 25
I’m back! I had so much fun! The desert was great. I had a blast. We shot the many guns that the men brought. We blew up lots of stuff. We made a burning man. The burning man was made of wood and other burnable objects and had an empty propane tank as a head. We made gas bombs out of empty liquor bottles. It was amazing. We rode the quads and I really wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle but no one taught me. We went on jeep runs and just mobbed some dez.
My best friends brother’s wagoner kept breaking down so we had to keep stopping on the jeep run. Eventually we had to tow his car back to the property but it was fun while we were doing it. Sometime we would go to fast over some intense whoops and we caught a lot of air! It was so fun!
Another one of the cars broke and we were going to tow it back so the guys whose jeep it is tied the tow strap onto the front axel thinking that it would be fine. Well it turns out that he didn’t tie it to the right place. We stopped and saw that the axel was bent and one of the wheels was turned totally in and the steering wheel wouldn’t move so the men had to take the whole front axel off and fixing it was hectic. They had to straighten it out using the bumper less back end of the Cherokee.
Day 22
So the roster was finally posted at like 12 last night! I definitely not going to sit by the computer that long. So here’s the finally result…. I made it! Yay!!!
So today I am leaving for the desert this morning so I am not going to be able to write for the next 3 days and I don’t have anything for today because I just woke up and I am leaving in 15 minutes so I have to make sure we have everything that we need. There is no technological use except a call or too on a cell phone in case someone gets lost or for goodness sake I do. But I need to go so have a nice weekend!
Day 21
So I have been waiting for them to post the list all night and they said it would be up by 9 but that definitely hasn’t happened because it is not up yett! It is making me quite nervous! I hope they post it soon!
For a while I thought that my big tournament was this weekend but it is definitely not. its next weekend! haha There is going to be a bunch of college coaches at the tournament so I need to make sure that I play to my best abilities.
Over break I will be going to the desert. I am really excited the desert is so fun! MOB DEZ BRO! My dad just bought me my own rifle so I am very anxious to be able to go and shoot at stuff. I am going out to the desert for New Year’s too but that’s a while away. My dad is going to bring his rifles and pistols so I can get a chance to shoot those too!
I am supposed to go hunting over this month but I don’t have a license so I have not been able to do any of that. Getting a hunting license is not as easy as getting a fishing license. For a fishing license all you have to do is pay for it while a hunting license you have to take class and do follow through. With my schedule I am not going to be able to have time to any of the classes or anything so I am going to have to comprise but going to shooting ranges and going to the desert.
Well thats about all that I have for today I’ll let you know tomorrow about the roster and if I made the team or not. Be back soon.
Day 20
So I’ve had tryouts all week and they’ve made me sick, like literally. I cant talk, like no one can understand me at all. It’s embarrassing like either they can’t understand or they can’t hear me. So tryouts on Tueday were supposed to end at 9 but did they? I think not. They ended at 945!!!! Do you know how late that is on a school night? SUPER LATE! Like I really need my sleep during the flu season but I most definately didn’t get it on Tuesday night which means that i had a good chance and what am i now?
I’m sick.
It’s so hard to type right now. Like I feel so weak its ridiculous! Like it hurts to type! AHH! And all today during school while trying to write I was like super weak and like I couldn’t write it felt like my hand was going to come off!
I am going to the desert this weekend and I’m really excited. I’ve been wanting to go for such a long time to go and I never could cuz of soccer. I’m going to improve my skills at bow and arrow and maybe blow some stuff up.
So like I said I am going to improve my bow and arrow skills. Aaron is going to bring his bow and arrow to the desert and hopefully I wont hurt myself or anyone else. So I doubt that there will be any reception or internet in the desert so I’ll talk to all yalls in a couple days! Latetassss
Day 19
Tryouts again today. This list comes out tomorrow! And I have a huge tournament in 8 days with my club team! I am so excited I just can’t hide it! I am very happy that tomorrow is the last day of tryouts and that we are going to start high school season soon. Soccer is my favorite thing to do and I hope that my senior high school season is going to be the best one yet. My coach has his heart set on winning CIF this year and I think that would be totally awesome to win CIF my senior year!
All week long my driveway has been a disaster! There has been paper strewn all over the driveway, boxes piled sky high, empty and filled to the brim. My parents have been emptying the boxes all week long discovering the treasures that have been hidden for 15 months. Some still smell like smoke, some boxes were filled to the brim… with paper, and some boxes were labeled completely wrong!
This morning when I woke up I came down for breakfast before school my dad was watching the fishing channel and they were talking about fly fishing and some kind of fish but I don’t really remember what it was called but it was some fish that you catch when you fly fish.
So this up coming week I am going to try to go surf fishing with my dad and my mom wants to learn how to fly fish! I’m wondering how we are going to learn? Are we going to try to teach ourselves? I can see that going disastrously wrong… are we going to have someone teach us? If so… who??? Where will we find him or her? Where will we rent the equipment? Most importantly were are we supposed to go fly fishing???????
Day 18
Day 18. Well, Well.
I had another tryout today. Go figure. Still no phone, thankfully today they didn’t change the location of tryouts on me! I was supposed to have soccer practice today but it got cancelled. So now I am thinking about how I have a HUGEEE tournament coming up this weekend so I am really nervous about that as well.
Onto fishing. I talked to a man today at the docks when I went to go pick up my dad today and was waiting for his boat. This man’s name was Nick. I wasn’t expecting to interview anyone so I didn’t really have anything to take a picture with or anything write down what he said but I think that I can recall most of his stories though some may not be perfect.
I didn’t ask Nick his last name. But I didn’t really think it was absolutely required. So Nick is 47 and he lives in San Diego and has 3 children. Nick’s says his best catch was a Mako shark he caught was a 22o Lb. He said that was his roughest trip he had ever had. Apparently he was down off the coast of Mexico and this terible storm comes in and almost tips the boat. 2 men went overboard luckily they got both back on board. He was a very nice fisherman who was waiting for his 21 year old son to come back from his first fishing trip.
Lateaaaa!
Day 17
So today is my first day of tryouts. Well officially my first day. I mean like the other people had a tryout yesterday. And it was so incredibly stressful trying to figure out whats going on with out a phone to be contacted on. But that’s another story entirely and has nothing to do with my blog.
So you know how yesterday I said that people eat like fish guts? Well it turns out in some cultures that if you don’t use everything of the animal that you kill it is a disgrace to their people. They use the hide for blankets, the meat for food (obviously), and they use to insides for storing things like water or medicines. Many of the tribes and cultures may not do this so much anymore but they used to carry on this tradition and honor.
People today just throw away the gross stuff including the insides and the hide that some tribes cherish. Others shoot the elk and the dear and the moose as prizes that they can mount upon their wall. They just want them for prizes, to boost their ego. Not even to eat the meat. They just want a stuffed head sittiing on their wall!
Well thats all for today I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
Day 16
So today I had tryouts today but I had to go to practice instead but I guess they ran 3 miles! That’s a lot of running!
So with all of this soccer and school and projects. It has been really hard to find a time to go hunting and fishing. Learning about it is the easy part. Today I learn how to skin a fish. I’ve seen my dad do it before but I never really asked him to teach me how to do it. All you do is cut off the skin! I’m not really good at it. I’m actually terrible at it! You have to like cut all the guts and yuck out as well! soo nasty! I don’t understand how people do that all the time!
How do you not get grossed out and like repulsed? And further more how do people eat the guts? There are people who actually eat fish insides! I think that is just sooo nastyyy! They eat like the liver and all the gross stuff that comes with it!
